Edna M. Johnson, 94, of Redfield, SD and formerly of Frankfort, SD, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort.  The Reverend Stephen Perry officiated. Burial was at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Frankfort. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials directed to the American Cancer Society. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Edna was born March 14, 1917, on the farm, south of Frankfort to Howard and Ada (Wetzbarger) Baird. She attended Frankfort School and graduated in 1934. Edna married Glenn M. Johnson on Oct. 1, 1938. They lived on the family farm south of Frankfort until 1982 when they moved into Frankfort. Glenn died in 1986 and Edna continued living in Frankfort until she moved to Redfield in 1998.

She was an active member of Frankfort United Methodist Church and Methodist Women. She enjoyed quilting with Happy Hour Club. She loved gardening, flowers, canning, sewing and providing for her family. Edna enjoyed spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren’s activities.

Edna is survived by her children: Glenna (Larry) Herker of Muncie, IN; Kathleen Nagel of Gettysburg; Deanna (Arden) Bindenagel of Frankfort; and Alan (Mickie) Johnson of Frankfort. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Greg (Mary) Herker, Steven Herker, Mark Nagel, Nathan Nagel, Andrea (Allen) Goodroad, Anne (Bjorn) Aamot, Kurt Bindenagel, Brian (Jamie) Johnson, Sarah Johnson and Lisa Johnson and her great grandchildren: Grace Herker, Callie and Candice Aamot, Ella, Lila and Leo Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn, her daughter and son-in-law Carol and Glen Hassebroek, son-in-law Leonard Nagel, three brothers: Paul, Kent and Clark Baird and six sisters: Ruth (in infancy), Elva Higgins, Helen Battey, Dorothy Allen, Doris Horton and Martha Johnson.
