Emergency crews called to accident Friday morning

Share

Law enforcement and emergency crews were called out Friday morning to assist with an accident on Highway 1804.
A semi loaded with round hay bales tipped on the Potter-Sully county correction curve around 8 a.m. on Aug. 24. According to Potter County Sheriff Curt Hamburger, Orlando Penate Junco, 38, of Houston, TX, lost control of his semi and trailer. He said it appeared that the driver was not prepared for the curve in the road and over-corrected with a top-heavy load. The semi tipped onto the passenger’s side.
The passenger in the semi’s sleeper compartment, Joseffa Calderon Lasvastida, 37, was reported to have suffered a broken arm and non-life threatening injuries. She was treated and released at the Gettysburg Hospital.
Assisting at the scene were the Potter County Sheriff’s Department, the Sully County Sheriff’s Department, SD Game, Fish and Parks, Gettysburg EMTs, and Gettysburg Fire Department.
Speed was not determined to be a factor in the accident.
