Hoven School opt out passes
Voters in the Hoven School District passed an opt out by a vote of 396 to 227 during a special election last week.
In unofficial returns from the Sept. 18 special election, the YES/NO votes, broken down by polls are:
Hoven Elementary – 360/71
Tolstoy Elementary – 28/50
Lebanon Legion – 8/59
West Precinct-B & R Truck Repair – 0/47.
The opt out of the state property tax freeze is for the maximum amount of $200,000 per year and will last seven years.
In October, a previous opt-out request for $168,000, will expire. That has also lasted seven years.
The Hoven School District covers the majority of Potter County and includes parts of Faulk, Edmunds, and Walworth counties. Only voters who reside within the school district for a minimum of 30 days during the past year are allowed to vote in the school elections.
