Medal of Honor recipient to speak at Veterans Day


On Sunday, Nov. 11, the annual Veterans Day program will be held at the American Legion Community Building beginning at 2 p.m.
Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Michael J. Fitzmaurice of Hartford, SD will be the featured speaker at the event.
Fitzmaurice is a veteran of the Vietnam war where he served in D-Troop, 2nd 17th Cavalry, 101st Airborne. He has served in the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard
He graduated from Iroquois High School in South Dakota in 1969 and is retired from his position as plumber at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center.
He is highly decorated for his military service, including Vietnam Service Medal with bronze star, National Defense Service Medal, a Purple Heart, and the Congressional Medal of Honor.
He and his wife, Patty have two adult sons, Mike Jr. and Brian.
