Grand jury indictment handed down in child rape case
A grand jury indictment was handed down last week in Minnehaha County alleging child sexual abuse charges against a Gettysburg man.
According to documents filed with the Minnehaha County Clerk of Courts office, Joshua Allen Bausch, 35, is charged with four counts of first degree rape involving a person under the age of 13, and two counts of sexual contact with a child under the age 16.
The allegations initially stemmed from complaints involving an eight year old female in Sioux Falls.
Bausch made an initial court appearance on Wednesday, June 5 in Minnehaha County court, at which time his bond was reduced from $250,000 to $10,000.
He made bail and was released from Minnehaha County jail. The preliminary hearing was cancelled due to the indictment.
Bausch pleaded not guilty to all counts during a court appearance on Tuesday, June 25. A jury trial is scheduled for Sept. 30 in Minnehaha County.
First degree rape against a child under the age of 13 is a Class C felony which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment in the state penitentiary and a fine of $50,000.
