De Vere Tobin


De Vere Tobin, 88, of Gettysburg, died Sept. 15, 2013 at the Avera Gettysburg Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2  p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19 at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg with Pastor Jeff Adel officiating. Burial will follow in the Gettysburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5  to 7  p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18 with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the church.
Leland “De Vere” Tobin was born May 10, 1925 in Gettysburg, SD to William and Irene (Hurley) Tobin.  He was raised by his uncle, Vic Hurley and grandmother, Mabel Hurley. He attended country school. On Nov. 2, 1945, he married Dorathy Cooper. He spent his entire life farming.
De Vere volunteered on the local fire department.
He is survived by his wife, Dorathy Tobin of Gettysburg; five sons: Ronald (Rebecca) Tobin of Gettysburg, Ralph (Eileen) Tobin of Parkston, Randy (Penny) Tobin of Kempner, TX, Robert (Myra) Tobin of Omaha, NE, and Rodney (Debby) Tobin of Kranszburg, SD; 14 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter; two grandsons; and one great-great-grandson.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg is in charge of arrangements.
