William “Bill” Drew
William “Bill” Drew, age 96, of Gettysburg, died Dec. 20, 2013 at the Avera Oahe Manor, Gettysburg.
Funeral services were Dec. 27 at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg with Pastor Jeff Adel officiating. Burial followed in the Gettysburg Cemetery.
William Ellsworth Drew was born April 9, 1917 at Springfield, SD to Walter W. Drew Sr. and Agnes (Ribble) Drew.
In 1938 he married Imogene “Genee” Britton.
Bill spent time in the Civilian Conservation Corps and helped build the building at the Old Cheyenne River Agency. He also broke horses.
They lived on a farm near Gettysburg before moving to town in 1949 when Bill worked at the Buick garage as a salesman, later buying the Jeep and Oldsmobile dealership and selling automobiles in Pierre. He later opened his own insurance agency.
He was a 65 year member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his son Robert Drew of Gettysburg, his daughter Mona (Jim) Baldridge of Conde, SD, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his brother, Walter (Becky) Drew of Stillwater, OK.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Genee; and his brothers Clifford, Don, and Daryl.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Bill’s arrangements.
