Lady Battlers finish with 17-6 season as runner-up in Region
The Potter County Lady Battlers finished their season on March 6 when the Sully Buttes Lady Chargers won the Region 2B championship.
After giving fans a fun year, the Lady Battlers finished with a 17-6 season, taking them on trip that ended one game away from the state tournament. The game ended with the Lady Chargers on top 61-35.
Potter County took the lead early in the first quarter when they came from behind and led 5-4, but that was the last time the scoreboard favored the Lady Battlers.
The defense from the Sully Buttes team got away with 26 Potter County turnovers, and held the Lady Battlers. Some big three point shots from Samantha Kilian and Alli Lake cut into their opponent’s lead, and each scored 11 points during the game, but the top rated Lady Chargers showed how they earned their rating by putting a little more distance in the score.
“We really had a fantastic season,” said head coach Christy Saltsman. “What an awesome group of girls! Even though the season didn’t end the way we wanted, the girls have no reason to hang their heads. They put up a great fight against the number one rated team in the State, and they know that Sully Buttes will represent our Region well. “
Coach Saltsman went on to say that these girls learned so much about themselves and each other throughout the season. “They have learned some very valuable life lessons, and I see a very bright future for these young ladies.”
The Lady Battlers finished with a 17-6 record on the season.
This is the third consecutive year the Sully Buttes team will head to the state tournament, and it is their ninth trip in 11 years.
The Lady Chargers travel to Huron on Thursday for the opening round of the State B tourney.
