Kaup squareMary Ann Kaup, 56, Hoven, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at her farm home. Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, March 25 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Hoven, with Father Kevin Doyle, Celebrant. Interment followed at the Church Cemetery.
Mary Ann Minnerath, daughter of Cyrilla (Zweber) and Reynold Minnerath, was born at Hoven on Dec. 9, 1957. Mary Ann was brought up on the farm five miles west and one mile north of Hoven. Her formal education consisted of St. Anthony’s Parochial School and Hoven High School, Class of 1976. Upon graduation, she was employed at the Holy Infant Hospital in Hoven. Mary Ann married Keith Kaup at St. Anthony’s Church on Sept. 23, 1977. They settled in Hoven where Mary Ann continued her employment at the Hospital until the late 1990s. She then stayed at home to be there for her family.
Mary Ann’s hobbies included cooking, gardening, fishing, jigsaw puzzles, arts and crafts, and music. She especially cherished the time she could spend with her granddaughters who called her Nannee.
Mary Ann had a zest for life and lived every day to the fullest, carrying out her motto, “We’re only here for a short time, so we gotta have a good time!”
Mary Ann is survived by her mother, Cyrilla Minnerath of Oahe Manor, Gettysburg; Keith, her husband of 36 years; two sons – Brandon (Alicia) Kaup and Colby (Tami) Kaup; three granddaughters – Ashlee, Alyssa, and Raquel all of Hoven; two brothers – Arlyn Minnerath of Hoven and Dean Minnerath of Watertown; numerous aunts, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, and many dear friends and relatives.  Nannee’s loss will be greatly felt by Ashlee, Alyssa, and Raquel.
She was preceded in death by her father, Reynold, on Aug. 18, 2007.
Organist was Alice Simon along with St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Choir.  Vocalist was Vonnie Reuer. Lector was Chuck Simon and Mass servers were Colin Arbach and Connor Kaup. Eucharistic Minister was Suzi Vail and Offertory Gift Bearers were Mary Ann’s nieces-Jenny Litzen, Lynelle Dwyer, Heidi Fiechtner, and Katie Minnerath.
Placing of the Pall were Kay Klocker, Colette Giese, Kristin McIntire, Deb Schaefer, and Deanne Arbach.
Honorary bearers were all of Mary Ann’s fishing buddies.
Casketbearers were Mason Kaup, Don Litzen, and Cody Minnerath of Rapid City, Kyle Kaup of Minneapolis, MN, Pat Dwyer of Ortonville, MN, Jason Klocker and Jon Prindiville of Sioux Falls, and Jeff Fiechtner of Watertown.
