Weather change from fire to precip
Gettysburg volunteer firefighters were called out on Thursday, April 24 to a fire northwest of town. Sunflowers being harvested on Brad Simon’s land caught fire, in addition to a second fire in a stubble field nearby.
According to Potter County Sheriff Curt Hamburger, around 10 acres burned over a period of two to three hours.
Incredibly dry conditions and high winds fueled the fire, and Potter County was in a “red flag” fire warning that day.
By the weekend, rain and high winds came to the area, with a few snowflakes falling on Tuesday. Farmers hustled to put in crops during the nice weather before the rains came, and will hopefully be rewarded for their efforts as nearly two inches of rain fell by Tuesday morning.
