Blood drive needs Type-O donors
The Gettysburg area United Blood Services blood drive is set for June 23-24 at the Grace Bible Church, and this year they are trying to sign up more O-positive and O-negative donors.
Out of every 100 people needing blood, more than 50 percent will use type O. It is the most common blood type, with 37 percent of the population having O-positive blood. Because of that, it is the most often used, plus it can be also given to patients who have other blood types. It can be given in an extreme emergency situation when there is no time to cross-match blood. O-negative blood is used in the treatment of babies, and neonatal care facilities require fresh units of O-negative each day to treat their tiny patients.
All blood type donations are needed and welcome. Contact Sandy Wager at 765-2779 to schedule your blood donation for Monday and Tuesday.
