Motorcycle accident west of town

Share

US Highway 212 is one of the main arteries across the state for motorcycles heading to the Sturgis Rally, and a section five miles west of Gettysburg was the scene of an accident on Monday morning.
Gary Peterson, 61, of Minneapolis was driving a 2014 Yamaha motorcycle west on 212 on Aug. 4 when he lost control and went into the ditch and tumbled, according to Potter County Sheriff Curt Hamburger. He was not wearing a helmet and suffered a serious head injury. He was transported to the Avera Gettysburg Hospital for treatment before being transferred.
No citations were issued, but Sheriff Hamburger reported that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the accident. Gettysburg fire, EMTs, police department, and Potter County Sheriff’s department assisted at the accident, which occurred around 8:15 a.m.
