Martha Irene Mann


Martha Irene Mann, 98, of Gettysburg, died Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Oahe Manor in Gettysburg. A private family memorial service and burial in Gettysburg Cemetery will be held at a later date. Martha was born Nov. 1, 1913 in Chariton, Iowa to Perry and Clara Mae (Law) Scott. Her family boarded the train and moved to Potter County when she was four years old. She attended Appomattox School through the eighth grade and went on to graduate from Gettysburg High School in 1932. On May 15, 1933 Martha married George Mann in Faulkton. George and Martha ranched northwest of Gettysburg until moving to town in 1997. Martha lived at the Oahe Manor for the past two years. Her dedication and love for family and relatives led her to collect many articles about the activities and events they were involved in. She made many contacts to research the genealogy of the extended family. Martha also collected many articles about the history and development of the Dakotas. She had a fond interest in poetry and enjoyed playing cards. Anyone who had an opportunity to sit at her kitchen table greatly enjoyed her home cooking. Later in life she enjoyed traveling with her husband to see family, friends and grandchildren. Martha is survived by her daughter, Marlene (William) Otey of Dell City, OK; son, Jay (Beverly) Mann of Luverne, MN; grandchildren: Deborah (Brian) Bonebright of Sparta, MO, Stephen Mann of Tallahassee, FL, David Mann of Charlotte, NC, George (Ricki) Otey of Peidmont, OK, William ³Billy² Otey of Oklahoma City, OK; great-grandchildren: Nathan Bonebright of Windsor, CO, Allen Bonebright of Seattle, WA, Bryce Mann of Charlotte, NC, Christopher Otey of Kingfisher, OK, and Joe Otey of Kingfisher, OK; two great-great-grandchildren, Taygen and Alexi Otey of Kingfisher, OK and one sister, Earline Spicer of Gettysburg. She is preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; and infant son, Jerald. Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Martha¹s arrangements. (
