Primary election Tuesday, June 5

Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, June 5, to determine who will represent each political party during the fall general election. Those voting in the Democratic primary will choose a U.S. Representative candidate between Matt Varilek and Jeff Barth. The Republicans will choose a presidential candidate from a field including Ron Paul, Rick Santroum, Newt Gingrich, and Mitt Romney. Candidates vying for Potter County State’s Attorney on the GOP ticket are Sarah Larson, Joan Powell, and Craig Smith. To learn more about the candidates, profiles are published starting on page 14 of the News. Voters in District Two, which is the Hoven area, will select a representative on the Potter County Commission between William Bill Arbach and Jesse Zweber. Read more about the candidates on page 16 of the News. All voters will be able to decide to opt-out of the tax levy for road repair work. Polls will be open for the primary election from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in all the voting precincts in Potter County. The polling places are located at the American Legion Community Building in Gettysburg, and the Hoven Legion Hallin Hoven. This year, Potter County is using electronic pollbooks for the primary election, so voters no longer have to go to a specific precinct to cast their ballot. Only the locations in Gettysburg and Hoven will be open for voting on June 5. The e-pollbooks will scan information from your drivers license, so remember to bring your photo ID to the polls in order to vote. If you do not have a photo ID, a form may be filled out at the polls to confirm personal identification. Voters with disabilities may contact Potter County Auditor Karen Doerr at 765-9408 for information and special assistance in absentee voting or polling place accessibility. The most important thing to remember is to vote in the primary election on Tuesday, June 5.
