Thelma H. Langer, 98, of Gettysburg, SD formerly of Ainsworth, NE died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 at the Oahe Manor in Gettysburg. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, June 3 at Grace Bible Church in Gettysburg with Pastor Dick Nickel officiating. A reception will be held immediately following services. Burial took place Jan. 17 at the Ainsworth City Cemetery in Ainsworth, NE. Thelma Helen Ensley was born Sept. 8, 1913 to John and Clara (Keech) Ensley in Ainsworth, NE. She attended school in Ainsworth graduating from high school in 1931. Thelma went on to receive her teaching certificate from Chadron State Teacher’s College. She taught school for over 30 years in Johnstown, Ainsworth, and Long Pine, NE. She retired in 1968 but continued always finding things to do and places to go. On July 3, 1935 Thelma was united in marriage to William Lawrence Langer Jr. Together they made their home in Ainsworth, NE, raising their three children. Bill and Thelma enjoyed being Rockhounds; collecting rocks of many kinds. In her 60′s, Thelma enrolled in an art class where she learned to paint. She enjoyed this for many years. She also loved doing ceramics and traveling. She was able to visit the Colorado Rapids, New England States, New York, Washington D.C., Alaska, Hawaii, Jamaica and New Mexico. Due to health reasons, Thelma moved to the Oahe Manor in Gettysburg, SD on Jan. 13, 2005 to be close to her son and family. Thelma is survived by her son: Duane (Hazel) Langer of Gettysburg; daughter-in-law: Mariann Langer of Hot Springs, SD; brother: Everett (Evelyn) Ensley of Caldwell, ID; grandchildren: Renea (Jeff) Hill, Michael (Janet) Ostblom, William Kelly (Stacey) Langer, Todd Ostblom, Greg Langer, John (Jill) Langer, and Lora (Brad) Langer Hazelrigg; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; special visitor and friend, Rich LaRosh; and all of the staff at the Oahe Manor. She was preceded in death by her husband William on June 9, 1977; her parents; two children: Lawrence “Larry” Langer and Sandra Langer Ostblom; and one granddaughter, Michelle Ostblom Fox. Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Thelma’s arrangements. (www.familyfuneralhome.net)
