Jim Koertge, 77, Tolstoy, died June 28, 2012 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen. His funeral Mass was July 3 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Hoven, with Father Kevin Doyle, celebrant. Inurnment followed at the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the John J. Peters American Legion Post No. 159, Hoven, SD.
James Allen Koertge, son of Mary (Brelsord) and Riley Koertge, was born Oct. 14, 1934 at Detroit, MI. He graduated with the Redford High School Class of 1952. He served in the US Navy and was honorably discharge in 1960. He worked in sales with Arvin Industries and Cessna Industries. He sold recreational properties and designed a sportsman’s club and the Prairie Schooner Steakhouse in Utah.
In August 2011 Jim’s son purchased a home in Tolstoy, where Jim moved. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hoven. He also served on the Utah Wildlife Board.
Family surviving Jim are sons James (Donna) Koertge of Tolstoy, Steve Friendt of Hutchinson, MN, Jeff (Mary) Friendt of Ogden, Utah, and Brandon Koertge of Gig Harbor, WA; daughters Sharon (Chuck) Plattisha of Hutchinson and Jessica Koertge of Lynnwood, WA; one brother David (Kathy) Koertge of Highland, MI; one sister Nancy Menken of Jefferson, OR. seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
