Mavis L. Eldeen
Mavis L. Eldeen, 80, of Pierre, previously of Gettysburg, died Aug. 2, 2012 at St. Mary’s Healthcare Center in Pierre. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 7 at the Gettysburg First United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Gettysburg City Cemetery.
Mavis LaVonne Vincent was born on Nov. 8, 1931 in Edgeley, LaMour Co, ND to Ward and Martha (Green) Vincent. She grew up in the DeSmet, Gettysburg and Pierre areas, attending school through the sixth grade. She spent many years caring for nieces and nephews and helping were ever she was needed.
Later in life, she marred Bernard L. Eldeen. They made their home Southwest of Onida. When he became ill, Mavis went to work in food service as a dishwasher and cooks helper. Bernard died in 1985.
She was a member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed playing bingo and sharing a cup of coffee with friends. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her siblings: Shirley DenHartog of Gettysburg, Dale (Mary) Vincent of Pierre, Calvin (Shirley) Vincent of Trenton, NE, and Linda Johnson of Gettysburg; four sister-in-laws, Rosaland Eldeen of Gettysburg, Jenny Vincent of Valley City, ND, Janice Vincent of Kansas and Dorthy Eldeen of West Lebanon, NH, a special friend, Etta Wharton and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; sister, Dorothy Norgaard; brothers, Thomas, Raymond, Gene Alvin, and James Vincent; ten brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.
