Accident at bridge claims life

A Dewey County man lost his life Sunday in a drowning accident at the Forest City Bridge on Sunday.
The Gettysburg EMTs were called to a drowning at the bridge around 1:15 p.m., which spans the Missouri River from US Hwy 212 west of Gettysburg.
According to eyewitnesses, two men jumped off the bridge on the Dewey County side of the river, and one did not resurface. The victim was found and brought to the shore where CPR was attempted before the ambulance crew arrived. The ambulance from Eagle Butte was also dispatched to the scene.
The victim was identified as Robert Robideau, age 38, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Potter County Sheriff Curt Hamburger, Trooper Goldsmith of the SD Highway Patrol, and SD Game, Fish and Parks Conservation Officer Brad Saltsman were also on the scene to assist Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Police. Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor to the accident.
The accident is under investigation.
