Board of Education held special meeting July 8


July 8, 2014
The Gettysburg Board of Education held a special meeting in the Elementary Library on the above date.  Present were the following:  Kay Schmidt, Paul Kellogg, Ryan Lake, Brian Robbennolt, and Kimberly Schweiss. Absent:  Matt Cronin and Kevin Geditz.  Also present were Tim Hagedorn, Wendy Smith, Barb Everson, Amber Mikkelsen, Kenny Goebel, Gerrick McComsey and Scott Sikkink.
The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Board Vice-President Schmidt called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM.
Motion by Kellogg, second by Lake to approve the agenda with the following additions:  add lunch budget supplement; worker’s comp resolution, and SDHSAA resolution.  All present voted aye.  Motion carried.
The parking lot project bids were opened at a 2:00 PM bid opening.  The school board recognized the lone bidder was Sharpe Enterprises, and their base bid was for $270,000 with concrete, and $290,000 with asphalt.  Gerrick McComsey from Sharpe Enterprises discussed the parking lot project, along with the current building project.
Business Manager Everson discussed the finances of the building project fund, along with the capital outlay fund dollars available.
Motion by Robbennolt, second by Lake to approve RFP 22A for $35,025.00 for additional engineered fill required.  All present voted aye.  Motion carried.
Scott Sikkink and Brian Robbennolt left the meeting to attend the city council meeting and discuss their possible assistance with areas of the parking lot project.
Motion by Schweiss, second by Kellogg to approve the claim of Promaxima Manufacturing for $3,848.05. All present voted aye.  Motion carried. This is the amount the school paid for the new weight room equipment. The total bill for the equipment was $10,258.05 with generous donations from Schatz Electric, Tree B Farms, Dakota Applicators, and Kelly/Renee Kirby. Tyler Fischer coordinated this project.
Motion by Kellogg, second by Lake to approve the following 2013-14 budget supplement:

All present voted aye. Motion carried.
Motion by Lake, second by Schweiss to adopt Associated School Boards Protective Trust for worker’s compensation effective 7-1-14.  All present voted aye.  Motion carried.
Motion by Schweiss, second by Lake to authorized membership in the SD High School Activities Association.  All present voted aye.  Motion carried.
Motion by Kellogg, second by Schweiss to adjourn the meeting at 9:38 PM.  All present voted aye.  Motion carried.
