Carol Miles, 80, died on Dec. 2, 2020 in Fort Mohave, Arizona. She was born July 16, 1940 in Kidder, SD to Irvin and Marjorie Bredberg. From her early age, Carol’s company was sought after, thanks to her sense of humor, energy and positive outlook on life.
Carol graduated from Claremont High School. For several years, she was a cook at Claremont Public School and Redfield School. Her professional life also included work in three bakeries. In addition, her love for children led her to operate an in-home daycare in Redfield. She retained a joyful and young spirit.
After living in Redfield for many years, Carol moved permanently to the Missouri River, whose sight she enjoyed on a daily basis from her deck. While residing there, she worked at the local drugstore in Gettysburg where she made a plethora of lifelong friends. Carol retired in 2018. Her retirement allowed her to spend her winters in Arizona to which she looked forward. Nevertheless, on each occasion she was eager to return to her home and friends because her heart belonged to the River.
Throughout her life, Carol was praised for her wit, empathy and loyalty. She was often described as “the light in the room” wherever she set foot. Her company was sought after by those in search of comfort as well as by those who needed a listening ear or simply a good laugh. She was known to claim every day as her birthday because she enjoyed seeing people happy.
Carol is survived by her her sons Rocky Shilhanek, Minneapolis, MN and Shayne Shilhanek, Norfolk, VA. Additionally, Carol is survived by very special friends Hakim Abderrezak (Eric), Sandy and Mick Hagny, and Dan Drentlaw. Last but not least, she is survived by a list of close friends and family members, which is as long and as deep as the River.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Bonnie.
A celebration of life will be held July 17, 2021 at Whitlock Bay Supper Club.
