Cecilia Adeline Wika

Cecilia Adeline Wika, 89, of Clarkfield, MN, formally of Grenville, died at the Clarkfield Care Center on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012.  Mass of Christian burial was Saturday Dec. 1 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grenville, South Dakota with the Rev. Albert Cizewski officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Cecilia (Lesnar) Wika, the daughter of Victoria Lesnar and Harry Block, was born on May 21, 1923.  Cecilia was raised and dearly loved by Martha and Anton Koslowski.  Cecilia was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Church and graduated in 1941 from St. Joseph Catholic School located in Grenville, SD.  She was united in marriage to Raymond J. Wika on Dec. 31, 1945.  To this marriage six beautiful children were born: Jim, Marge, Tom, Marcy, Barb, and Larry.  Cecilia’s children meant the world to her.
Immediately after graduating high school Cecilia moved near Portland, Oregon to join in the World War II efforts and weld ships. She then returned to the Grenville area to the family farm.  In addition to farming, Cecilia worked effortlessly to raise cows, sheep, and chickens on the farm.  She also would graciously weld on area farmers’ machinery. Cecilia remained on the farm until 2001 when she moved to Gettysburg, SD. She lived in Gettysburg until 2006 when she entered the Clarkfield Care Center.  Cecilia’s hard work, dedication, and wit will be an inspiration to all.
She enjoyed gardening and also spent many hours drinking coffee and crocheting.  She truly enjoyed visiting and playing cards with family and friends.  She will be remembered for her tin of candy as well as her warm greetings, “good morning” and “good evening.” She had a deep passion for animals of all kinds, especially dogs and cats.  She had a soft wave she shared with all: her kids, grandkids, animals, the mail carrier, and all who joined in Cecilia’s life journey.
She is survived by her five children, Margaret (Richard) Jolstad of Cottonwood, MN, Thomas (Glenda) Wika of Thornton, CO, Marcella (Duane) Dahl of Sioux Falls, SD, Barbara (Bret) Bauer of Gettysburg, SD and Lawrence Wika of New Hope, MN; two sisters, Adeline Mickus and Jane (Charles) Rosner both of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren: Terri Downing, Jay Jolstad, Richard and Michael Wika, Sara and Jason Dahl, and Chandra Chase, Russell, Ryan, and Karen Bauer.  great-grandchildren: Samantha, Amber, Rebecca, and Tiffanie Downing, Jerand and Cerissa Chase, Koen Jolstad, and Brandon Wika.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her adopted parents, Martha and Anton Koslowski, husband in June 2007, son, James in 2006, a daughter-in-law, Peggy Wika, two sisters, Irene Thuneburg and Mary Pederson and two brothers, David and Raymond Koslowski.
