Cornelia Thompson


Photo G14-11 (Cornelia Thompson)Cornelia Thompson “Granny T”, 93, of Gettysburg, died peacefully Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 26 at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg with Pastor Jeff Adel officiating. Burial followed in the Gettysburg Cemetery.
Cornelia Jager was born Aug. 28, 1920 in Lebanon, SD to Henry and Cornelia (Scotsman) Jager.
On June 4, 1936 she was united in marriage to George Washington Thompson in Selby, SD. They made their home in Gettysburg where they raised their 11 children.
Besides going for coffee and bingo, Cornelia’s favorite thing to do was watch one of her many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren play pool. She spent countless hours watching pool and was awarded the #1 Pool Fan from the South Dakota Pool and Darts for all her years of support and watching of pool.
Cornelia had a love for life and enjoyed every minute she could. She touched so many lives beyond her family and for that her family is blessed. She will mostly be remembered for the footprints she left on the hearts of her family and friends.
She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, TOPS, and Red Hat Ladies.  She spent many years working at the hospital, Busy Bee and Sunset Café.
Cornelia’s life will be cherished by her children Cora Zweber of Gettysburg, Diane (Sam) Schalk of Nashua, NH, Karen (Don) Tidwell of Rapid City, Nelia (Jim) Meier of Rapid City, George Thompson (Deb) of Black Hawk, Mark (Joan) Thompson of Piedmont, Tommy Thompson (Darlene) of Black Hawk, Pat (Kari) Thompson of Rapid City, Bill (Valerie) Thompson of Piedmont and last and certainly not least, Colette Thompson of Gettysburg; 25 favorite grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; her sister, Ethel Jaragoske of Gettysburg and sister-in-law, Shirley Den Hartog.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; daughter, Ida Fulkerson; two sons-in-law: John Zweber and Bob Fulkerson; two grandchildren: Colleen Zweber and Douglas Tidwell; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; seven brothers and two sisters.
