Dolores Worth

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 23 at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg with Pastor Jeff Adel presiding. Burial followed in the Gettysburg Cemetery.
Dolores was born April 20, 1924 to James and Florence (Nystrom) Sutton.  She grew up in the Little Bend area.  Around 1940 she moved with her parents to a farm west of Agar.  She graduated from Pierre High School in 1942 and graduated from Northern State Teacher’s College in Aberdeen in 1943. She taught school for one year and then moved to Huntington, California where she worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for two years and spent two years with the United Service Organization (USO).
In 1946 she returned to South Dakota where she met Derwin Worth.  They were married on Sept. 3, 1946 in Sioux Falls and moved to the farm on the Missouri River in 1947.
Shortly after Derwin’s death in 1988, Dolores moved into the Getty Apartments in Gettysburg.  Around 2002 she moved into the Villa Apartments, and in 2010 into the Oahe Manor where she resided until her death.
Dolores was a 70+ year member of the South Dakota Extension Homemakers Club where she held both local and state offices.  She was a member of the Eastern Star where she held all offices throughout her 50+ year membership.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Medicine Rock Senior Citizens, the SD Cowbelles, and the Hospital Auxiliary.
Dolores loved to bowl and was an avid bowler until shoulder and knee problems forced her to quit.   She enjoyed cooking and baking and various crafts from leather tooling to candle making.  She spent many years on the road driving her sons to baseball games, 4-H meetings, and other activities.  She loved to travel and spent several summers touring the United States through Extension trips.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, and one niece.
Memories of her life will be cherished by her  sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren:   Dave and Gail Worth of Eagle River, Alaska, and their sons John, Sioux Falls, and James, Eagle River;  Dolan and Susan Worth and their children Bart (Carmen) Worth, Gettysburg, Heather (Mick) Kennedy, Harrisburg, and Mandy (Aaron) Walberg, Aberdeen;  Delvin and Rene Worth and their children Elissa (Mitch) Stevens, Roseau, Minnesota, and Jay Worth (Angela Hiles), Gettysburg;  Danny Worth and Dale Worth, Gettysburg.  Nine great-grandchildren are richer for having shared her life: Paige and Preston Worth; Alexis Neugebauer and Kaci Kennedy; Aaron, Russell, and Madelyn Walberg; Rose and Bodhi Stevens; and one great-great-grandson, Cayden Neugebauer; her brothers: Jim (Julie) Sutton and Lyle (Deanna) Sutton, Onida; two nieces and two nephews.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, and one niece
In lieu of flowers the family ask for memorial to be directed to the Gettysburg United Methodist Church Building Fund.
