Fans need masks at indoor activities

Dear Parents/Guardians/Community Members:

We are off to a great start in the classroom here in the Gettysburg School District. The students, teachers, staff, and parents have made it possible to get us here. The cooperation between all parties has been welcome! We all want our students and staff to be healthy and safe in these uncertain times. We are experiencing an increase of Covid-19 cases in Potter County. We are working hard in school to keep our students and staff safe.

The Gettysburg and Hoven School District Boards of Education have implemented a few policies to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance.  Masks are required for all fans, both home and away, for the entire duration of the contest to reduce transmission of COVID-19 in our facility.  We also encourage fans to engage in social distancing where possible and that families sit together at the event. Elementary age students must be accompanied by, and sit with an adult. If you choose to visit the concession stand, all purchases must be consumed in the cafeteria and no food or drinks from the concession stand are allowed in the gymnasium as recommended by the South Dakota Department of Health.  Fans may remove masks to consume concessions in the cafeteria, but social distancing is strongly encouraged when masks cannot be worn. We appreciate your cooperation in following these guidelines for everyone’s safety.  As soon as the games are complete, we would ask the fans leave the building as quickly as possible, so our custodial crew can begin the cleaning and disinfecting of the gyms.

The Gettysburg and Hoven School Districts have put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19; however, the Districts cannot guarantee that individuals will not become infected with COVID-19 at these events.  Let’s work together to ensure our student athletes can continue to participate in athletics safely. Please honor the safety guidelines we have put in place.

Yours in Education,

Chip Sundberg,

Superintendent

Gettysburg School District
