Haberer takes sixth in State B wrestling tourney

Sixth in State…
Austin Haberer, center, was awarded the sixth place medal in the 160 pound weight class at the State B wrestling tournament on Saturday. He was one of six wrestlers from the Potter County Battler team to compete at the state level, and the only one to place. He is pictured with coaches Eric Stuwe and Michael Schlachter. Austin, who is a senior on the team, is the son of Lisa and Bryan Haberer of Gettysburg.

The Potter County wrestlers traveled to Aberdeen on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22-23 to participate in the State B Wrestling tournament.
Six Battlers wrestled in the tourney:  Seniors – Jace Everson at 138#, Cole Geditz at 152# and Austin Haberer at 160#, Sophomores – Brody Schatz at 126# and Luke Vogel at 170# and Freshman – Garrett Rausch at 120#.
Austin Haberer was the lone medal winner for the Battlers, earning a sixth place finish.  The wrestlers had some tough matches and can be very proud of their accomplishments at state and throughout their season.
Here are the individual results from the state tournament:
Garrett Rausch 120# (30-21)  Lost by fall to Oliver Aesoph (Faulkton) and lost by fall to Dawson Semmler (Parkston).
Brody Schatz 126# (33-12)  Won by decision 10-4 over Ethan Murtha (Parkston), lost by tech fall 1-16 to Nolan Richie (Webster) and lost by decision 6-8 to Marshall Swanson (Hill City).
Jace Everson 138# (30-11)  Lost by fall to Myles Bialas (Parkston), won by major decision 9-0 over Kane LaPlante (Clark/Willow Lake) and lost by decision 0-4 to Evan Donahue (Howard).
Cole Geditz 152# (38-11)  Won by decision 6-0 over Turner Serr (Burke/Gregory), lost by decision 2-5 to Kent Hall (Faulkton), and lost by fall to Dylan Severyn (Custer).
Austin Haberer 160# (37-12)  Lost by decision 2-4 to Brandon Potter (Faulkton), won by decision 6-1 over Jaydn Broughton (Canton), won by decision 4-3 over Luke Warejcka (Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes), lost by fall to Jonah Beck (Burke/Gregory) and lost by decision 4-6 to Brandon Potter (Faulkton) to place 6th.
Luke Vogel 170# (27-18)  Lost by fall to Kyle Scofield (Flandreau), won by decision 6-3 over Mason Kilker (Britton-Hecla) and lost by major decision 1-9 to James Jungwirth (Howard).
