John Aaron Miller, age 65, of Pierre, SD died at Avera McKennan Hospital on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017 with loved ones at his side. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30 at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre followed by a prayer service. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 1 at Lutheran Memorial Church with burial at Riverside Cemetery,
John was born March 12, 1952 to Raymond and Mildred (McGough) Miller in Gettysburg, SD. He was the sixth of seventh children and attended Gettysburg elementary school until moving to Pierre in 1965 where he attended middle and high school. He went on to attend and graduate from SDSU and began employment with the city of Pierre. In 1989, John accepted the position of environmental scientist at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources during which he obtained a masters degree. He remained here until his eagerly awaited retirement in June of this year.
On April 15, 1977, John married Marge (Morse) Miller. The couple was blessed with three daughters Adrienne, Erica, and Erin who later blessed him with three sons-in-law: Jeff Taylor, Tim Noteboom, and Michael Strey. In addition, John was a beloved grandfather to Maple and Cade Taylor, Treighton and Zane Noteboom, and Vander Strey, who adored their grandpa’s youthful energy, fun-loving antics, and good humor.
In his spare time, John relished hunting season with all of his brothers and nephews, enjoyed golfing with his brother, Doug, and other friends from work. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, and tinkering around the house. One of John’s favorite places was the Morse farm where he spent many hours with Marge, maintaining the land and relaxing with nature.
John is survived by his best friend and wife, Marge, his beautiful daughters Adrienne (Jeff) Taylor, Erica (Tim) Noteboom, and Erin (Mike) Strey, his cherished grandchildren, Maple and Cade Taylor, Treighton and Zane Noteboom and Vander Strey. He is also survived by his lovesome brothers and sister, Marshal (Mabel), Sharon (Harlen) Shaw, Jerry (Robin), Phil (Michelle), and Doug (Sherri), and many brothers and sisters in-law, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, Raymond and Mildred Miller, sister Phyllis Miller and his in-laws Robert and Esther Morse.
