Year begins with vaccine for coronavirus

With an increase in cases during the week, vaccines are being administered

The SD Department of Health continues to rate the community spread as “moderate” as six more were added to the number of Covid-19 cases in Potter County over the past week. There are 305 cases ever recorded in the county, but the number of active cases remains at 10, with 292 recovered. The deaths among cases rose to three.

As one in nine people in the state are reported to have contracted the virus, hope has arrived in Gettysburg. The Avera Missouri River Health Center began administering doses of the vaccine to frontline workers during the past week, with plans to vaccinate residents at the Avera Oahe Manor in the near future.

The situation for the availability of the vaccine evolves quickly, so it is important to be prepared to reschedule as doses become available.

Drive through testing for the Covid-19 virus is still available at the ambulance bay on the east side of the AMRHC building in Gettysburg on weekdays as needed from 10-10:30 a.m. If you are experiencing symptoms, contact the clinic at 605-765-2273 (CARE). Continued care in preventing the spread is still encouraged by wearing masks, social distancing, and hand washing.
