Santa Claus is making a stop at the Potter County Library on Saturday to gather Christmas wishes and greet good little children. He will be at the library from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and everyone is invited to stop by and give Santa this year’s gift list.
During their regular December meeting on Monday night, the Gettysburg city council appointed Philip Nagel as the representative to serve on the council from Ward 2. Nagel will fill the seat that was vacated earlier this fall by the death of Ward 2 Alderman Ron Larson. He will serve in that capacity until the next city election.

Potter County Highway Superintendent JD Long reminds residents that bales in the ditches be removed before the snow flies. Long asks that all bales be removed from county road right-of-ways as soon as possible. Removing the bales is necessary to help prevent snow drifting. If there are any questions, contact Long at 769-1011.
The regular meeting of the Gettysburg School Board will be held on Monday, Dec. 10 at 5 p.m. in the school’s conference room. Discussion items on the agenda include construction, approve policies, approve contract, and administrative reports. The meeting is open to the public and all those interested are encouraged to attend.
The Potter County Battler basketball teams will open their season at home on Saturday with a double header against Lyman. The C game gets underway at 1 p.m. and guessed that varsity girls will start warm-ups around 4 p.m. followed by the boys at 6 p.m.
In observance of the National Day of Mourning for President George H. W. Bush, federal offices and services were closed on Wednesday, Dec. 5. The postal service was among those services closed, so those who get their News by mail will be reading this a day later than usual.
